Who Are We?

Cymru+Cuba is the Welsh branch of the Cuban Solidarity Campaign in the UK. We campaign against the US blockade of Cuba and for the Cuban peoples' right to self-determination and sovereignty.

We also work with all sectors of Welsh society in building links with the Cuban people, celebrating their achievements. For over 40 years Cuba, a small nation of 11 million people, has been subjected to sustained interference in its internal affairs by the United States. It has suffered military aggression and economic hostility in the form of a trade blockade and the continued presence of a US navy and marine base at Guantanamo on Cuban Territory.

Our Stance

US hostility toward Cuba has increased despite specific UN General Assembly resolutions, passed with overwhelming majorities and almost no opposition, demanding the total, immediate and unconditional lifting of the US blockade.

Origins

Cymru+Cuba was born in September 1982 in a Prestatyn hotel and a committed membership has sustained the group since then, which has survived the test of time by taking in a broad church of supporters in Wales, now taking its place proudly alongside sister organisations in over 130 countries which pay tribute to the advances and fortitude of the Cuban people.

Supporters

Cymru+Cuba supporters over the years have included the late great Professor Gwyn Alf Willims, Labour leader Rhodri Morgan, Lord Dafydd Elis Thomas, poets Iwan Llwyd, Tony Conran and the late Gwilym R Jones and Tyrone O'Sullivan of Tower Colliery and Plaid Cymru MP Elfyn Llwyd, who are both long-time supporters of Cymru+Cuba.
